CMF Speaker S – a waterproof Bluetooth speaker shaped like a milk carton

Most cheap Bluetooth speakers look like a pill, a can or a bar of soap. In black. With a rubber strap. You can’t tell them apart, and nobody gets excited when they unwrap one.
The CMF Speaker S is a small Bluetooth speaker shaped like a milk carton. It has the gable top, the sharp corners and a hole in the top where you can hang it from a bag or a tent. It’s also IP68 waterproof and costs 59 bucks.
A speaker that looks like dairy. Somebody at Nothing had a good afternoon.

What is the CMF Speaker S?
CMF is the budget brand of Nothing, the London phone company with the see-through gadgets. CMF launched its first two speakers on October 12, 2026: the Speaker S for $59 and the bigger Speaker M for $109. The S is the small one, about 13 cm tall and 334 grams.
It comes in dark grey, orange, turquoise and white. Each color has its own knob shape and color, and the front panel and the knob come off. You can swap them between speakers, and CMF says it will release the design files so people can 3D print their own handles and parts. Engadget mentions that too.
How does it work?
The big knob does almost everything. Turn it for volume. Press once to play or pause, twice to skip, three times to go back. Hold it for Ultra Bass. On the back are buttons for power, Bluetooth and Auracast.
The specs, according to CMF:
- A 45 mm full-range driver with two passive radiators, 10 W RMS
- Up to 18 hours of playback (at 50% volume with Ultra Bass on), and about an hour from a 10-minute charge
- IP68 dust and water protection
- Bluetooth 6.0, NFC tap-to-pair, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair
- Lossless audio over USB-C, with under 60 ms of delay, for movies and games on a laptop
- Stereo Mode with a second Speaker S, and Party Mode with Auracast speakers
- EQ presets and a custom EQ in the Nothing X app
The good and the not-so-good
What I like:
- The design. It’s a speaker people will ask about.
- Mat Smith at Engadget tried a pair and called them surprisingly rich-sounding for the size and price.
- IP68 at this price. Take it to the pool or the shower.
- Swappable panels and printable parts. Fun for anyone with a 3D printer.
What could be better:
- No USB-C cable in the box, says Engadget. Grab one if it’s a gift.
- You can pair two Speaker S units, but you can’t mix a Speaker S with a Speaker M.
- 10 W is fine for a desk or a picnic. Don’t expect it to run a party.
- It’s brand new, so there’s no long-term review of the battery or the build yet.
Who is the CMF Speaker S for?
Teenagers, students, design fans and anyone who needs a fun gift around 60 bucks. It’s a good shower speaker and a good desk speaker for a laptop thanks to the USB-C audio input. Buy two and you have stereo for the price of one fancy speaker.
If you want something louder with more bass, look at the Marshall Emberton III. For a design speaker with a bigger budget, there’s the Teenage Engineering OB-4.
Where can I buy the CMF Speaker S?
Amazon sells the CMF Speaker S from the CMF by Nothing store. The dark grey one was 59 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026), and the other colors are listed too. Nothing also sells it on its own site.
Milk carton, but make it loud. Take my money.
