Loftie Clock – an alarm clock that lets your phone sleep in the kitchen
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. It costs you nothing extra.

I go to bed with my phone “just to set the alarm.” Forty minutes later I know everything about the 1998 Tour de France doping scandal. Sound familiar?
The Loftie Clock is a smart alarm clock that takes over every job your phone does at night: the alarm, the white noise, the sleep sounds, even a bit of meditation. Your phone can charge in the kitchen.
It won’t make you go to bed earlier. It just removes the excuse.

What is the Loftie Clock?
The clock is a rounded oblong of 6.5 by 2.75 by 2.75 inches that weighs 1.8 pounds, with a dimmable display, a speaker under a steel grill and a nightlight that glows from the bottom. The MoMA Design Store sells it, which tells you something about how it looks.
You get more than 100 sleep sounds (white noise, brown noise, rain, campfire), plus sound baths, breathwork and short meditations. Loftie stresses that all of it is included. No subscription.
How does it work?
The headline feature is the two-phase alarm. Phase one plays a soft sound for 30 seconds to wake you up. Phase two goes off 3, 6 or 9 minutes later (your pick) to actually get you out of bed. It’s the snooze button, but planned by an adult.
At night there’s a Bed Signal (a light and sound nudge when it’s time for bed), a sleep timer that fades the audio out, a red mode and a blackout mode that turns the screen and light off while the alarm stays armed. It also works as a Bluetooth speaker.
Setup needs the Loftie app and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. After that, you can switch on offline mode and run everything from the buttons on the clock. Loftie says a backup battery keeps it going for 5 to 7 hours if the power cuts out.
The good and the not-so-good
The good:
- The two-phase alarm is a smarter idea than a louder beep.
- After setup, your phone can stay out of the bedroom for good.
- All sounds are free. Plenty of sleep apps put this kind of content behind a subscription.
- Reviewed.com’s sleep writer tested a pile of alarm clocks and liked this one best.
The not-so-good:
- It’s a lot of money for an alarm clock. Your phone does all of this for free (and then shows you TikTok).
- The Amazon listing admits the simplified buttons take some getting used to.
- It sits at 3.8 stars on Amazon, and user reviews on Thingtesting complain about the app and the update process.
- You can’t skip the app. Setup and software updates go through it.
Who is the Loftie Clock for?
Phone-in-bed scrollers who want to quit and know willpower alone won’t do it. It’s also a nice gift for someone who just bought a house and wants a calmer bedroom.
Skip it if you mainly want to wake up with light. The Philips Hue Twilight fakes a sunrise on your wall. Want something sillier? The Nintendo Alarmo wakes you with Zelda sounds. More ideas in our best sleep gadgets.
Where can I buy the Loftie Clock?
Amazon US sells the Loftie Clock in black and a few other colors. Loftie’s own site has a 30-night trial and a much longer list of colors, from Sage to Red Shell.
Charge the phone in the kitchen. The Tour de France can wait until morning.
