Here’s how most beginner electric guitars die. Someone gets a guitar for the holidays. Then they need an amp. Then a cable. Then the cable crackles, the amp is in the wrong room, and by February the guitar lives under the bed.

The Enya Nova Go Sonic skips all of that. It’s an electric guitar with a 10-watt speaker and digital effects built into the body, so you pick it up, switch it on and play. No amp needed.

It sounds like a gimmick. I thought so too. But the more I read about it, the more I want one leaning against my couch.

What is the Enya Nova Go Sonic?

Enya Music is a guitar maker from Shenzhen, China, best known for travel-friendly carbon fiber acoustics and ukuleles. The Nova Go Sonic, launched in March 2024, was its first electric guitar, reports Guitar World.

It’s a single-cut shape (think Les Paul) made from carbon fiber composite. On paper it’s 38 inches long with a 24.75-inch scale and weighs about 6 pounds. Enya says the carbon fiber holds up in different weather, humidity and temperatures. Good news for a guitar that lives in a car trunk.

How does it work?

Under the strings sit two humbucker pickups, Alnico II in the neck and Alnico V at the bridge. A push-pull volume knob switches the neck pickup between series and parallel, for a brighter, Strat-like sound.

The clever bit is inside. There’s a 10 W speaker in the body and four onboard presets: Clean, Overdrive, Crunch and Lead. One button flips between them. In the free Enya Music app you can tweak each preset with EQ, a noise gate, delay, reverb, and chorus, tremolo or vibrato.

Then the connections:

  • A normal 6.35 mm jack for a real amp or PA, with the presets still working
  • A 3.5 mm headphone jack for silent practice
  • USB-C to charge it and to record straight to a phone or computer (OTG)
  • Bluetooth audio, so you can play along with a backing track through the guitar’s own speaker

It comes with a gig bag and a USB-C cable. Guitar World noticed it even includes the charging plug, which is more than most gadgets bother with these days.

The good and the not-so-good

What I like:

  • One object instead of a guitar, an amp, a cable and a pedal. That’s the whole point, and it’s a good one.
  • Playing along with songs over Bluetooth through the guitar itself is a great way to keep a beginner practicing.
  • A buyer reviewing it on the retailer Mion found the clean and crunch tones through the speaker better than earlier travel guitars, and the app easy to pair.
  • It’s tough. A carbon fiber guitar is a lot less scary to hand to a teenager.

What could be better:

  • Ten watts is practice and campfire volume. You won’t play a gig on the built-in speaker alone.
  • No independent review I found measured the battery life, so I can’t tell you how long it lasts between charges.
  • Only four presets on the guitar itself. Fine for beginners, limited for tone nerds.

Who is the Enya Nova Go Sonic for?

Beginners who want an electric guitar without the gear pile. Also guitarists who want a couch guitar, a travel guitar or something to play on the balcony without dragging an amp outside.

If the player is a small kid, a Loog Mini guitar is a gentler start. And if they already own a guitar they love, a Fender Mustang Micro Plus headphone amp is the cheaper way to go cable-free.

Where can I buy the Enya Nova Go Sonic?

Enya sells it on Amazon through its own brand store, in several colors. The black one was about 370 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026).

Rock on. Quietly, if the neighbors are home.
