Fender Mustang Micro Plus – a guitar amp that fits in your pocket

Every guitarist with housemates, neighbors or a sleeping baby knows the feeling. You finally have an hour to play, and you can’t turn the amp on. So you strum an unplugged electric guitar, which sounds like a rubber band on a shoebox.
The Fender Mustang Micro Plus is a tiny headphone guitar amp that plugs straight into your guitar’s jack. Put in earbuds or headphones and you hear a full amp and effects rig. Everyone else hears nothing.
It’s one of those gadgets that makes you wonder why practice amps are still the size of a suitcase.

What is the Mustang Micro Plus?
Fender launched the original Mustang Micro as a tiny practice amp with 12 amp models and 12 effects. The Plus came out in September 2024 and roughly doubles that: 25 amp models and 25 effects, taken from Fender’s Mustang amp series. It also adds the thing the original was missing, a small display, so you can see which sound you’re on.
The idea stays the same. No amp, no pedalboard, no guitar cable. One gadget hanging off your guitar.
How does it work?
Plug it into the output jack. The plug rotates, so it fits most guitars and basses. Connect wired headphones or earbuds and pick a preset. Fender says:
- There are 70 factory presets and 100 preset slots to save your own.
- The OLED display doubles as a chromatic tuner.
- Bluetooth lets you stream music from your phone and play along with songs or lessons.
- The Fender Tone app (iOS and Android) lets you edit presets and the signal chain.
- USB connects it to a computer or phone to record what you play.
- The rechargeable battery is good for more than four hours of playing.
What I like / What could be better
What I like, on paper:
- Guitar.com gave it 9 out of 10 and called the app intuitive, with lots of great presets.
- Amp, effects, tuner and a Bluetooth jam-along in one gadget. Less stuff to pack.
- Buyers seem happy: it has more than 1,100 ratings on Amazon averaging 4.5 stars at the time of writing.
- It’s small enough to take on vacation with a travel guitar. Pair it with decent wired headphones, like the AIAIAI TMA-2, and you have a whole rig in a backpack.
What could be better:
- Guitar.com’s main complaint: you can’t adjust the gain on the fly from the hardware.
- Four-ish hours of battery is fine for practice. Forget to charge it and your session is over.
Who is the Mustang Micro Plus for?
Guitarists in apartments. Parents who practice after bedtime. Teenagers whose parents would like some peace. Players who travel and don’t want to haul an amp. It also makes a good gift for someone who just started: it’s cheaper than a decent amp, and the tuner alone saves a lot of out-of-tune frustration.
Skip it if you want to play with other people in the same room. You need a real amp for that. And if the person you’re buying for is a kid who doesn’t own a guitar yet, start with the Loog Mini.
Where can I buy the Mustang Micro Plus?
Fender sells it through its own Amazon store. It was about 125 to 130 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026).
