Ooni Volt 2 – an 850°F indoor pizza oven for your countertop

Your kitchen oven tops out around 500°F. A real Neapolitan pizza wants about 800. That gap is why homemade pizza comes out bready and pale, and why people with a backyard buy those fire-breathing outdoor pizza ovens.
The Ooni Volt 2 is an indoor pizza oven that closes the gap. It’s electric, it sits on your counter, and it heats up to 850°F, so you can bake leopard-spotted pizza in January without standing in the snow next to a propane tank.
It’s also 700 bucks. Does it earn that? Mostly, if you really love pizza.

What is the Ooni Volt 2?
Ooni is the Scottish brand that made backyard pizza ovens a thing. The Volt 2 is the follow-up to its original electric oven, the Volt 12. According to Tom’s Guide, the Volt 2 is 30% smaller than its predecessor and cheaper, but it’s for indoor use only.
The highlights, per Ooni:
- Heats up to 850°F, and down to 70°F for proofing dough
- Presets for Neapolitan, Thin & Crispy and Pan pizza, plus two custom presets you can save
- A Boost function that pushes the top element for a Neapolitan pizza in about 90 seconds
- Oven and Broil modes, so it also roasts veggies, salmon or a tray of cookies
- A Crisping Intensity setting that moves more heat to the top of the pizza
- A removable, dishwasher-safe filter that vents smoke and steam
- A big triple-pane glass window, a 13-inch cordierite baking stone and an oven shelf in the box
It makes 12-inch pizzas and measures 21.5 x 17.4 x 10.4 inches. Tom’s Guide weighed it at about 39 pounds.
How does it work?
Ooni calls the brain of the oven Pizza Intelligence: sensors inside the oven and an adaptive control that adjusts the heating elements in real time. You pick a preset, it heats up, and you slide your pizza onto the stone with a peel. Tom’s Guide measured about 810°F after 20 minutes, which is the sweet spot for Neapolitan pizza.
There’s no flame to chase, so you don’t keep rotating the pizza like you would in a gas or wood-fired oven. You just watch it through the window.
The good and the not-so-good
What I like, on paper:
- Restaurant-hot pizza indoors, any time of year. Tom’s Guide gave it an Editor’s Choice and called it fast, powerful and thoughtfully designed.
- About 90 seconds per pizza, so everyone at pizza night gets their own.
- The smoke filter. Tom’s Guide said it vents clean steam out the back and absorbs the rest, which matters with a smoke alarm nearby.
- It’s more than a pizza oven, thanks to the oven, broil and proofing modes.
What could be better:
- 700 bucks, and that doesn’t include a pizza peel. You’ll want one.
- T3 found the bottom element a bit over-eager on the Neapolitan setting, which can leave the base too dark, and missed a simple way to balance top and bottom heat.
- Mixed reports from early buyers on Amazon, where it sits below 4 stars. Some received cracked stones or dents, a couple say an inner glass pane shattered, and one found the oven slow to recover heat after 2 or 3 pizzas.
Who is the Ooni Volt 2 for?
People who are already a little obsessed with pizza: the friend who talks about dough hydration, or anyone who owns an outdoor Ooni and hates that winter shuts down pizza night. Apartment dwellers without a yard are a good match too.
If you’re just curious about homemade pizza, Tom’s Guide suggests starting with a pizza stone in your regular oven. That’s good advice. Upgrade once you’re hooked. And if you like weird indoor cooking gadgets, have a look at the GE Profile indoor smoker too.
Where can I buy the Ooni Volt 2?
Ooni sells the Volt 2 through its Amazon store in grey and white. It was about 700 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026), and Ooni also sells bundles that add a peel and a brush.
