The Spiciest Snacks in the World (2026)

Everybody has that one friend who puts hot sauce on everything and then says “it’s not even that spicy.” This list is for them. These are the spiciest snacks you can buy right now: a lollipop, peanuts, chocolate, jerky and noodles made with the hottest peppers on earth. Further down you’ll find the best spicy snacks for people who want heat and still want to taste something.

I love spicy food, and I’ve been updating this list since 2017. Some old favorites are gone, so for this 2026 refresh every pick was re-checked. Where I haven’t eaten something myself, I tell you what the maker and reviewers say.

Some context on the numbers. Heat is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU). A jalapeño scores roughly 2,500 to 8,000. A ghost pepper sits around a million. The Carolina Reaper goes over 1.5 million. Keep that in mind when you see a lollipop claiming nine million.

First, a word about the One Chip Challenge

For years the top of this list was Paqui’s One Chip Challenge, a single tortilla chip in a coffin-shaped box, made with Carolina Reaper and Naga Viper peppers. It’s not here anymore, and it’s not coming back.

In September 2023 a 14-year-old in Massachusetts died after taking the challenge. Paqui pulled the chip from stores within days, as NBC News reported. In May 2024, the medical examiner said he died of cardiopulmonary arrest after eating food with a high concentration of capsaicin. He also had an enlarged heart and a heart defect, according to CNN.

Paqui still makes regular bagged chips, and one of them is on this list below. The challenge chip is gone, and so are the copycats from this page.

A short safety note. Extreme snacks are for adults who know their limits. Keep them away from kids and pets. Skip them if you have a heart condition, are pregnant or have stomach problems. Don’t eat them on an empty stomach, and have milk or ice cream ready: dairy helps more than water. Chest pain, trouble breathing or fainting after a “challenge” means calling a doctor, not posting a video.

Toe of Satan – the world’s hottest lollipop

The Toe of Satan from Flamethrower Candy is a red, toe-shaped lollipop. It tastes like cinnamon for about a second. After that it tastes like regret.

The heat comes from a chili extract rated at 9 million Scoville, which is where that huge number comes from. It’s extract, not a whole pepper, and that’s how it gets far hotter than any pepper grown in the ground. One lollipop weighs 0.7 ounces. Retailer Vat19 lists it for ages 14 and up and tells you to keep milk or ice cream nearby. Flamethrower also makes Lil’ Nitro, which it calls the world’s hottest gummy bear.

The con: extract heat is sharp and chemical. There’s no real flavor to enjoy. This is a dare in candy form.

Who it’s for: adult chili-heads who want the top of the scale, and a very specific kind of party. Not for kids, even if it looks like candy.

Death Nut Challenge 3.0 – five levels of spicy peanuts

Blazing Foods’ Death Nut Challenge is a pack of spicy peanuts in five levels, each hotter than the one before. Version 3.0 uses Carolina Reaper, ghost pepper and scorpion pepper. The idea is simple: a group starts at level one and you see who makes it to five.

It’s a better challenge format than a single chip, because everyone can stop at their own level. That’s the point where you drink milk and watch your friends suffer.

The con: stock comes and goes. At the time of writing (September 2026) Blazing Foods’ own shop showed version 3.0 as sold out. One reviewer also found the nuts weirdly sweet, and the sweetness plus heat was a lot. And yes, these are peanuts, so they’re off limits for anyone with a nut allergy.

Who it’s for: game nights and birthday dares with adults who like a bit of competition.

The Choco Challenge 3.0 – the world’s spiciest crunchy chocolate

If chocolate is more your thing, Fuego Spice made a small series of very hot chocolate bars. The third one, the Crunch of Doom, is milk chocolate with crisped rice. The heat comes from the Razor Pepper blend, grown by Smokin’ Ed Currie, the man behind the Carolina Reaper, and made just for this bar.

The con: it’s hard to find. PuckerButt Pepper Company, Ed Currie’s own shop, listed it as sold out at the time of writing, so buy it when you see it.

Who it’s for: chocolate lovers with something to prove. It’s a great gift for the friend who says dessert is never spicy enough.

Jerky.com Carolina Reaper Beef Jerky – heat you can actually eat

This one is for people who want real Carolina Reaper heat and still want a snack. Jerky.com makes it with actual Reaper peppers, not extract, along with soy sauce, brown sugar, pineapple juice and honey. It scores 10 out of 10 on the company’s own heat scale. A 2.5-ounce bag has 12 grams of protein per one-ounce serving.

Because it’s jerky, you chew it slowly, and the heat builds instead of hitting all at once. That makes it much easier to share around a table than a lollipop made of extract.

The con: the capsaicin gets on your fingers. Buyers warn you to wash your hands before touching your eyes, and to eat it on a full stomach.

Who it’s for: hikers, road-trippers and anyone who likes protein snacks and hot sauce equally.

Samyang Buldak 3x Spicy – the noodles Denmark tried to ban

Buldak (“fire chicken”) noodles from Korea’s Samyang are the internet’s favorite spicy noodle, and the 3x Spicy version is the hottest one in the regular lineup. Noodle reviewer The Ramen Rater put it at around 13,200 Scoville. That sounds low next to the peppers above. But you’re eating a whole bowl, not one bite.

Denmark’s food agency recalled three Buldak flavors in June 2024 over capsaicin levels. It lifted the recall on two of them a month later, but kept 3x Spicy off shelves, NBC News reported. The noodles are still sold in the US.

The con: the sauce packet is the heat. Use half the first time, and keep the rest for when you’re feeling brave. Don’t serve it to kids.

Herr’s Carolina Reaper Cheese Curls – spicy snack for the couch

Herr’s, the Pennsylvania chip company, calls these the hottest snack it has ever made. They’re classic cheese curls with Carolina Reaper seasoning, and the Amazon listing says they’re gluten free.

What reviewers say is useful here. Many call it a “perfect” heat: hot, but it doesn’t burn your mouth out. Some chili-heads say they’re not as fiery as other Reaper products, and one Reddit reviewer noticed a smoky aftertaste. In other words, this is a real snack with real heat, not a challenge.

The con: if you’re looking for pain, these won’t deliver. They’re hotter than regular hot cheese puffs, not hotter than the Toe of Satan.

Who it’s for: people who want a spicy snack they can eat by the handful during a movie. Keep them away from the white couch, though. Orange fingers.

Paqui Haunted Ghost Pepper Chips – the Paqui you can still buy

Paqui’s regular Haunted Ghost Pepper tortilla chips come in a normal 7-ounce bag, not a coffin. Business Insider listed ghost pepper, cayenne, chipotle and chili pepper in the seasoning. They’re also gluten free and vegan, according to the Whole Foods listing.

These are a snack, not a dare. You eat them with salsa or guacamole. Reviewers on Reddit say they’re hot but a bit one-note, basically a spicy tortilla chip that works best for dipping.

Takis Fuego – the gateway spicy snack

Every chili-head started somewhere, and for a lot of people it was Takis Fuego. They’re rolled corn tortilla chips with a hot chili pepper and lime flavor. Maker Barcel rates them “Extreme” on its own scale.

They’re nowhere near the Reaper-level snacks on this list. But they have a big lime punch, a proper crunch and enough heat to make a spice rookie reach for a drink. They come in 3.25, 9.9 and 17-ounce bags.

The con: the red dust gets everywhere, and “extreme” means extreme for a supermarket snack, not extreme for this list.

Who it’s for: beginners, teens who want to feel tough, and anyone who wants a spicy snack for a party bowl.

How to choose a spicy snack

• Real pepper or extract? Snacks made with extract (like the Toe of Satan) are hotter but taste flat and chemical. Snacks with real peppers (jerky, peanuts, curls) have flavor too.
• Snack or challenge? Be honest about what you want. A challenge is over in five minutes. A snack is something you want to finish.
• Think about who’s eating. Anything labeled “challenge” is for adults only. Check the age guidance on the pack and keep it out of reach of kids.
• Check allergies. Peanuts, soy, wheat and dairy show up a lot in spicy snacks.
• Have a cooldown ready. Milk, yogurt or ice cream. Water mostly moves the burn around.

What is the spiciest snack in the world?

Of the snacks on this list, the Toe of Satan lollipop has the highest heat claim, with a 9-million-Scoville chili extract. For snacks made with real peppers, the Death Nut Challenge 3.0 and the Choco Challenge 3.0 sit at the top.

Can you still buy the One Chip Challenge?

No. Paqui pulled it from stores in September 2023 after the death of a teenager who took the challenge. It hasn’t returned. Paqui’s regular spicy chips are still sold.

Are spicy snack challenges dangerous?

For most healthy adults, very spicy food is painful but short-lived. But extreme capsaicin can be dangerous, especially for kids and people with heart conditions, as the One Chip Challenge case showed. Eat small amounts, never force anyone, and get medical help for chest pain, trouble breathing or fainting.

What helps when a snack is too spicy?
