Typhur Sync Gold – a wireless meat thermometer that reads your turkey through the oven door

Every holiday has the same scene. Someone opens the oven, pokes the turkey with a thermometer, lets all the heat out, closes the oven, and asks “how long now?” Twenty minutes later, they do it again.

The Typhur Sync Gold is a wireless meat thermometer: you push two slim probes into the meat, close the oven or the grill, and read the temperature on a base station or your phone. No wires through the door, no guessing.

It’s the kind of gadget I’d happily gift to whoever hosts Thanksgiving. Mostly so I get a better turkey.

What is the Typhur Sync Gold?

It’s a set of two wireless probes plus a base that charges them, shows the readings and passes the signal on to Wi-Fi. Typhur is a kitchen gadget brand that also makes air fryers. On Amazon this two-probe version is sold as the Sync Gold with “2 Slim Probes” (Typhur’s own site calls it the Sync Gold Dual).

The specs, from Typhur:

  • Six sensors per probe: five internal sensors plus one ambient sensor
  • ±0.5°F accuracy for internal temperatures, which range from 32°F to 221°F
  • The probes handle ambient heat up to 932°F, so they can sit on a hot grill
  • Probes are 5.08 inches long, waterproof (IPX8) and dishwasher safe
  • A 2-minute charge gives about 2 hours of cooking, and a full charge lasts 50+ hours
  • Range up to 3,000 feet in open space and 700 feet indoors
  • An 18-month warranty

How does it work?

The trick is the radio. Most wireless thermometers use Bluetooth, which struggles with thick oven doors, ceramic kamado grills and walls. Typhur uses a lower-frequency Sub-1G signal between the probes and the base. Typhur calls it the first wireless meat thermometer to use Sub-1 GHz.

The base has a 2.4-inch screen where you set target temperatures without your phone. Connect it to your Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only) and the Typhur app shows the cook from anywhere. The app also estimates when your food will be done.

The good and the not-so-good

What I like:

  • Two probes, so you can track the turkey and the ham at the same time. Or two steaks cooked to two opinions.
  • The base works on its own. Your phone can stay in your pocket while you talk to the in-laws.
  • Chris at Smoked Meat Sunday found the turkey readings within a few degrees of his reference thermometer.
  • Dishwasher-safe probes. After a big holiday meal, that matters.

What could be better:

  • The range claim is optimistic. In the Smoked Meat Sunday walk test, the signal dropped at about 740 feet, well short of 3,000 (still plenty for a house).
  • The base shows the lowest sensor reading, which confused that reviewer’s alarm timing at first.
  • The probes are over 5 inches long, which can be a lot for thin chops and small cuts.
  • It’s more expensive than a basic Bluetooth thermometer.

Who is the Typhur Sync Gold for?

Holiday hosts, weekend grillers and anyone who smokes a brisket overnight and wants to sleep. It’s a great gift for the person who always ends up in charge of the roast.

If you only cook a steak now and then, skip it. A cheap instant-read thermometer does that job fine. And if you want the smoke without the backyard, the GE Profile Smart Indoor Smoker is an interesting partner for this.

Where can I buy the Typhur Sync Gold?

Typhur sells the Sync Gold on Amazon. The two-probe version with the smart base was about 200 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026). There’s also a four-probe Sync Gold Quad if you cook for a crowd. For more ideas, see our kitchen gadget gifts.
