Eilik Robot – a tiny desk buddy that's scared of heights

Two small white Eilik desk robots, one with blue trim and one with pink, on round bases

Look at your desk. A monitor, a mug, maybe a plant that’s slowly giving up. Not one of them looks happy to see you in the morning.

The Eilik robot would. Eilik is a palm-sized desk robot with a face on a little screen and two moving arms, and its only job is to react to you. Pat its head, it smiles. Rub its back too long, it gets grumpy. Pick it up, and it panics. It’s completely useless, and I want two.

What is the Eilik robot?

Eilik comes from Energize Lab, a start-up in Hong Kong. It’s about 5.2 inches tall and weighs 8 ounces, according to the maker. The face is a 1.54-inch OLED screen, and four of Energize Lab’s own EM3 servo motors do the moving, so the arms can wave and gesture.

It isn’t a smart assistant. There’s no Wi-Fi needed, no voice commands, no camera. The Amazon listing even says “No Wi-Fi, No AI” in its highlights. You take it out of the box and start poking it.

How does Eilik work?

Touch sensors on the head, back and belly decide which mood you get. Energize Lab says the way you treat it changes how it behaves: keep annoying it and the grumpy faces show up more often. Lift it off the desk and it gets nervous. The Amazon listing has a whole section about it, titled “Not So High!”.

Left alone, it entertains itself with idle animations. Put two or more next to each other and they chat, dance, tease each other or start a fight. Design Wanted also describes timer functions like a Pomodoro timer and an alarm, and magnets that let Eilik hold the small food toys that come with it.

The battery is 450 mAh. Energize Lab rates it at about 1.5 hours of play and one hour to recharge over USB-C. After a minute without attention it goes into standby, and after 30 minutes it switches off. The maker keeps adding animations and games through updates.

The good and the not-so-good

What I like:

  • The faces are the whole product, and they’re good. Small, readable, and expressive enough to make you feel guilty for teasing it.
  • No Wi-Fi, no setup, no subscription for the basic robot. Rare in 2026.
  • It gets better in pairs. Two Eiliks arguing on a desk is peak office entertainment.
  • Amazon buyers rate it 4.3 out of 5 from more than 1,600 reviews.

What could be better:

  • 1.5 hours of battery is short. In practice it lives on its base.
  • It’s 140 bucks for a toy that, on paper, mostly makes faces. The two-pack is cheaper per robot, but it’s still a splurge.
  • If you want a robot that talks back, this isn’t it. Energize Lab sells a separate AI Station for that, at extra cost.

Who is the Eilik robot for?

People who sit at a desk all day and want something cute to poke between meetings. It’s a strong gift for a coworker, a gamer with a big setup, or a teenager who wants a pet that never needs a walk. The maker says 3+ on Amazon, but at this price I’d keep it away from toddlers.

Skip it if you need your desk toys to do something useful. A MOFT smart desk mat is the grown-up purchase. For hands-on stress relief without a battery, see our stress relief toys. And if you want a robot that actually calms you down, the Somnox sleep robot breathes with you.

Where can I buy the Eilik robot?

Energize Lab sells the blue Eilik on Amazon for about 140 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026). There’s also a pink one, and a cheaper-per-robot two-pack at the maker’s own store.

Fair warning: nobody stops at one.
