Ocoopa UT2s Mini – rechargeable hand warmers that snap together

Two hands pulling apart a pair of black Ocoopa UT2s Mini hand warmers

Disposable hand warmer packets work exactly once. After that, they sit in a coat pocket until spring as a little bag of cold sand.

The Ocoopa UT2s Mini is the rechargeable version of that idea, and it’s a lot smarter. It’s a set of two rechargeable hand warmers, each about the size of a lipstick, that stick together with magnets. Together they’re one palm-sized warmer. Pull them apart and you have one for each pocket, or one for the person next to you who forgot their gloves again.

I like this one as a winter gift: cheap enough for a stocking, useful enough that it won’t end up in a drawer.

What are the Ocoopa UT2s Mini hand warmers?

Ocoopa is a brand built around electric hand warmers, in a lot of shapes and sizes. The UT2s Mini is its small two-piece model. Each half has its own 2600 mAh battery, and you charge both at once with the split USB-C cable in the box.

On paper:

  • 3 heat levels, up to 126°F (52°C)
  • Heats up in about 3 seconds, according to Ocoopa
  • 4 to 6 hours of heat per warmer, depending on the setting
  • About 2.8 oz (79 grams) per warmer
  • Aluminum body, UL certified
  • Remembers the last heat level you used

You press the button, pick a level, and put it in your pocket. That’s it. No app, no Bluetooth, no firmware update on a cold bus stop.

The good and the not-so-good

What I like:

  • The magnet trick. Two pockets, two warm hands, one gadget to charge.
  • It’s reusable. One of these replaces a lot of single-use packets.
  • It’s small enough for a jacket pocket or a glove. Ocoopa says it was designed for smaller hands.
  • Ocoopa pitches it for people with Raynaud’s and cold, stiff fingers, which is a very real gift idea for a parent or grandparent who is always cold.
  • It’s well liked: about 3,500 Amazon ratings and 4.6 stars at the time of writing.

What could be better:

  • 4 to 6 hours is the range Ocoopa gives. On the hottest setting, expect the low end.
  • 126°F is warm, not hot. If you want something to heat a tent, this isn’t it.
  • It’s another thing to charge. Ocoopa lists a charge time of about 3 hours, so plug them in the night before the ski trip, not in the parking lot.

Who are the Ocoopa UT2s Mini for?

Winter commuters, dog walkers, people who stand on the sidelines at Saturday soccer, and anyone who goes skiing or ice fishing. It’s also a solid “I didn’t know what to get you” gift for the friend who is cold from October to April.

Skip it if you need serious heat for long days outside. A bigger model with more battery makes more sense there, and Ocoopa sells several. Shopping for someone who hates clutter? It also fits our gifts for minimalists: one small thing that replaces a whole box of packets. Heading somewhere really remote this winter? Pack a Garmin inReach Messenger Plus too. Cold hands are annoying. No signal is worse.

Where can I buy the Ocoopa UT2s Mini?

Ocoopa sells it on Amazon through its own store. On its own site it also comes in black, gray and a few brighter colors. The listing below is the floral City Garden design shown above, so check the color on the product page before you order.

Warm hands, two pockets, zero bags of sand. Take my money!
