Some players like their thumbsticks loose and twitchy, for snapping onto heads in a shooter. Others like them heavy and calm, for steering a car through a long corner. A normal controller picks one feel for you and that’s that.

The Flydigi Vader 5S is a wired Xbox controller that lets you dial in the stick tension yourself, from light to stiff. It’s Flydigi’s first officially licensed Xbox controller, and it went on sale in the US in February 2026.

Turning a ring to change how a stick feels is such a simple idea. I’m surprised nobody did it sooner on Xbox.

What is the Flydigi Vader 5S?

Flydigi is a Chinese controller maker, founded in 2008, that calls itself the number one controller brand in China. The Vader 5S is based on its Vader 5 Pro PC controller, rebuilt for Xbox with Microsoft’s license. It works on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PCs.

What Flydigi lists:

  • stick tension you can adjust from 40 to 100 grams of force (gf), using the gold ring around each stick
  • Hall effect sticks, which use magnets instead of wearing contacts, so they shouldn’t drift
  • triggers that switch between a short mouse-like click and a smooth full-range pull
  • six extra buttons: two on the back, two small extra shoulder buttons and two extra face buttons called C and Z
  • mechanical ABXY buttons and a pivoting D-pad
  • four vibration motors, in the grips and the triggers
  • four profiles, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an RGB light strip and a 3-meter cable
  • one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in the box

It’s wired only. No battery, no Bluetooth.

How does the adjustable tension work?

Turn the ring around the stick to make it lighter or stiffer. No app, no screwdriver. GamesRadar called tunable stick tension a perk you won’t find elsewhere on Xbox. The trigger mode switches on the controller too, so you can go from shooter to racer between matches.

The good and the not-so-good

What I like:

  • Adjustable stick tension. A real feature, not a light show.
  • Lots of extra buttons for the price.
  • Official Xbox license, so it wakes the console and just works.
  • Buyers rate it 4.2 out of 5 from about 600 ratings on Amazon, and it’s in the top ten of Xbox controllers there.

What could be better:

  • Wired only. Fine at a desk, annoying on the couch.
  • On Xbox the extra buttons can copy one button each. Flydigi says macros (two buttons at once) aren’t supported there.
  • Windows Central liked the features but not the looks, calling the design gaudy.
  • The deeper settings need Flydigi’s Space Station app on a PC.

Who is the Flydigi Vader 5S for?

The Xbox or PC player who mixes shooters, racers and sports games and wants one controller that can feel right for all of them. It’s also a good gift for someone with a drifting stock pad, at a price well under Microsoft’s Elite controller.

Skip it if you play from the couch. Then a wireless pad like the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 or the Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot makes more sense. And if racing is your thing, a real wheel like the Moza R3 beats any stick.

Where can I buy the Flydigi Vader 5S?

It’s on Amazon US for about 60 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026), sold through Flydigi’s own store. Flydigi’s website has it for the same price.

Tight sticks, loose sticks, your call. Take my money.
