Helinox Chair Zero LT – a camp chair that packs to the size of a water bottle

Every camping trip has the same moment. You hike all day, you find the perfect spot by the lake, and then you sit on a wet rock. Or a log full of ants. Backpackers leave the chair at home because every ounce counts, and then they spend the evening with a sore back.
The Helinox Chair Zero LT is an ultralight camp chair that weighs about 1.1 pounds and packs down to roughly the size of a water bottle. It’s the lightest chair in the Chair Zero line so far, and it came out in February 2026. If someone on your list counts grams in their backpack, this is the chair they’d never buy for themselves.

What is the Helinox Chair Zero LT?
Helinox is a Korean brand that has made packable outdoor furniture since 2009. Its original Chair Zero came out in 2017, and Gear Patrol calls it arguably the greatest ultralight camp chair ever made. The LT is the newest and lightest version.
According to Helinox and the Amazon listing:
- It weighs 1 lb 2 oz on its own, or 1 lb 3 oz with the bag.
- It holds up to 265 pounds.
- The seat sits about 7 inches off the ground, with an 18-inch backrest.
- It packs into a bag of about 14.5 x 4.5 x 4.5 inches.
- The frame is 7000-series DAC aluminum with nylon hubs.
- It comes in two frame colors, Cyan and Melon.
Gear Patrol worked out that it’s 3 ounces lighter than the Chair Zero L, the previous lightest model.
How does it work?
Like other Helinox chairs, it’s a folding pole frame with the seat hung over the ends, and molded corner pockets hold the fabric in place. Gear Patrol calls it easy to put together.
Two details make the LT different. The seat is made of GhostGrid, a see-through grid fabric that Helinox developed. It’s a ripstop, so a small hole shouldn’t turn into a big tear. And it comes with an X-strap that clips between the feet. That spreads the weight, so the legs don’t sink into sand, grass or soft dirt. Anyone who has slowly tipped backwards in a beach chair knows why that matters.
The good and the not-so-good
What I like:
- The weight. Gear Patrol called the 3-ounce drop “a pretty big deal” for backpackers, and said you’ll struggle to find a better non-stool ultralight chair.
- The X-strap is in the box. With older Helinox chairs, a ground strap is a separate purchase.
- A small built-in pocket for essentials, and mesh panels for airflow.
- Helinox gives all its products a 5-year warranty.
What could be better:
- It sits low. Helinox itself says it’s best for people under 5’9”, so tall friends will have their knees near their ears.
- No armrests, no cupholder. Ultralight means you give up the comfy extras.
- About 160 bucks for a chair is a lot. The regular Chair Zero is about 20 bucks cheaper on Amazon.
Who is the Helinox Chair Zero LT for?
Backpackers, bikepackers and kayakers who pack light but still want to lean back at camp. It’s also nice for festivals, beach days and kids’ soccer games, since it fits in a tote bag.
If you camp next to your car, skip it and get something bigger and cheaper with a cupholder. For the full winter-camping gift set, add a pair of rechargeable hand warmers, and for the person who hikes far from cell service, the Garmin inReach Messenger Plus. For people who want a seat on every walk, there’s always the walking cane that turns into a chair.
Where can I buy the Helinox Chair Zero LT?
Helinox sells the Chair Zero LT on Amazon through its own store, in Cyan and Melon. It was about 160 bucks at the time of writing (October 2026), with 4.1 stars from 60 ratings. REI and Helinox’s own site also sell it.
