Cosmo Communicator – When Smartphone Meets Laptop

Typing on my smartphone touch screen remains a less than ideal experience. As a blogger I need to be able to pound out hundreds of words while out and about. It would be so nice to just go out without carrying my laptop everywhere when I want to get some serious work done. The Cosmo Communicator is bringing back the glorious days of PDA and seems like the perfect device for travelling writers like myself. It’s basically a tiny Android laptop doubling as a smartphone.

What is the Cosmo Communicator?

Launched on Indiegogo and already surpassing a million bucks in funding the Communicator is the successor to the Gemini PDA, from the wonderful people of Planet Computers.

This is a quirky, bulky Android phone with a clamshell design. The true benefit shows when you open it up and unveil a mechanical, backlit keyboard that blows away any phone keyboard solution, including the appraised Blackberry keyboard.

The Cosmo runs latest Android 9.0 (Pie) and allows you to boot Linux next to it for a real desktop experience. In addition to the regular screen there’s an extra 2″ screen on the outside that allows you to see the most important things.

Cosmo Communicator Features

  • Clamshell design
  • 24MP external / 5MP internal camera
  • 4G LTE, Dual Sim
  • Android 9.0
  • 6GB RAM
  • 128 GB Storage
  • Dual USB-C connectors
  • Backlit Mechanical Keyboard

Where can I get the Cosmo Communicator?

The campaign is still active on Indiegogo. Backing it now will allow you to receive a Communicator in May 2019 for $230 off the regular retail price.
