Game & Watch: Legend of Zelda

After Mario celebrated his 35th birthday with a Game & Watch handheld last year, it’s Link’s turn this year. Nintendo is releasing a Game & Watch device that contains three classic Zelda titles as part of its The Legend of Zelda anniversary. Just like the Mario Game & Watch this Zelda version allows you to relive the NES and Gameboy classics in your pocket.

Features

This Game & Watch is a modern-day version of the handheld LCD devices released in the eighties, that contained very simple and affordable games that you could play when out and about. They doubled as a clock whenever they were in stand-by mode and ran on a few button batteries.

The new Legend of Zelda Game & Watch device contains three full Zelda games you can play:

  • The Legend of Zeldaâ„¢ (NES)
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Linkâ„¢ (NES)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Gameboy)

In addition you can also play a ‘Zeldafied’ version of the original Game & Watch game Vermin, where you whack moles with a hammer.

True to its name, this Game & Watch also doubles as a clock / timer, with the classic games as a backdrop.

Luckily, you don’t need button batteries to power this Game & Watch. There’s an internal chargeable battery which runs about 8 hours on a single charge via USB.

  • Contains 3 classic Zelda games
  • Includes a Zelda version of the classic Vermin Game & Watch game
  • Doubles as a playable clock and timer in standby mode
  • Mono speaker (no headphone input)
  • Charges via USB-C (cable included)

Who is the Zelda Game & Watch for?

True Zelda fans will probably add this collectible handheld to their Zelda stash, as it’s an official way to play some of the most beloved Zelda titles, without having a Nintendo Switch subscription.

For people that didn’t own the original games, but are fans of retro gaming, this Game & Watch contains a challenging set of games that you will definitely spend some hours on.

Lastly, as this product might have a limited run, it might be a good gaming purchase that will increase in value over time on the second hand market.
